It's already time to think about bear-human encounters. And this year, there's an added incentive. In support of the Colorado Wildlife Commission's recently passed regulation, the Town of Palmer Lake has adopted Ordinance 9 - 2002 - Prohibiting the Feeding or Attracting of Big Game Wildlife.
7.10.020 Fines - Please call the Town Office, 481-2953 or Palmer Lake Police - 481-2934 if you have any questions or concerns regarding Ordinance 9 - 2002. A complete copy of Ordinance 9-2002 is available upon request. The Colorado Wildlife Commission passed a new regulation for all Colorado residents and businesses - to remove trash and other things that attract bears. If you violate the rule, it'll cost you each time a wildlife officer finds a problem. "You can be fined the $68 for failure to clean up what we might call unintentional food sources. Garbage that's left out, or other attractants that bring bears onto other people's property," explains Michael Seraphin. The Division of Wildlife says the new fine was necessary because of Colorado's growing bear problem. The new rules don't just apply to mountain communities; every resident or business in the state is now required to create bear safe communities. |
