WHEREAS, Pikes Peak-America's Mountain, the City of Colorado Springs enterprise that operates the highway and recreation corridor, is seeking federal funding assistance to complete erosion and sedimentation control projects along the roadway to the summit, and WHEREAS, the highway and recreation corridor are an economic and recreational asset for the entire Pikes Peak region, WHEREAS, U.S. Rep. Joel Hefley has agreed to take the lead with the Colorado delegation requesting an appropriation in the FY2002 Interior and related agencies Appropriations bill, with the funding being directed to the US Forest Service for this specific purpose, and WHEREAS, US Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell has also agreed to help with this request and is a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee which has jurisdiction over the Interior Appropriations bill, and WHEREAS, the Pikes Peak-America's Mountain has made a commitment to match this appropriation dollar for dollar up to $5,000,000 over 10-years, and WHEREAS, members of Congress and Senators look for evidence of local support before advocating for a local project, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town of Palmer Lake supports the appropriations request for the Pikes Peak erosion and sedimentation control projects, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town of Palmer Lake will provide a copy of this resolution to all of the members of the Colorado Congressional delegation.
